SHOCK figures reveal nearly HALF of Brits are addicted to sweet treats [bestandroiddoubledinheadunit950.blogspot.com]
New research has revealed the average Briton scoffs through double the recommended amount of sugar – a whopping 14 sugar cubes a day.
However, over 75 per cent of us have tried to give up those sweet treats.
But the survey says we last just THREE days before we give in to our cravings.
In fact, according to the research by Canderel Sugarly, only three per cent of Brits manage to give them up for good.
Of the 1,000 people polled by Canderel in July, 68 per cent said they just fancied a treat, while 48 per cent said they liked the taste.
Nearly a quarter admitted they ate sugary things to alleviate STRESS.
Anna Richardson, who has presented Supersize vs Superskinny, told how easy to eat a huge intake of sugar, just by having a cup of tea.
She said: “As a nation we love our sugar, whether it’s a teaspoon in our hot drinks or the treats that we tuck into a Saturday night.
“Sugar can be an emotional support when we’re stressed or the treat at the end of a long day, so cutting down on it is easier said than done. The ideal scenario is a way to satisfy our sweet tooth AND reduce our sugar intake.”
A new study by Mindlab International at Sussex University this week tested to see if swapping sugar for sweeteners could help lower the amount we consume – and curb our sweet appetite.
The key result was that treats prepared with sweeteners as opposed to sugar still had the same effect of satisfying our sweet tooth.
In fact, according to the study, the sweetness “created more positive reactions in the brain”.
Dr David Lewis, who conducted the research, said: “When comparing the effects of sugar and sweeteners on the brain, taste tests revealed that treats made with sweetener actually created more positive reactions in the brain.
“This means that people enjoyed the taste and had a more pleasurable taste experience overall.
“The implications are that there are certainly ways to satisfy our need for sweet foods, without increasing our sugar intake.”
It comes after Express.co.uk shared top tips to stop you overeating.

Is a change in diet the key to curing your acne? Rid yourself with THIS claims expert [bestandroiddoubledinheadunit950.blogspot.com]
With a survey from Eau Thermale Avène revealing an estimated 4.8 million women suffer with adult acne long past their teenage years, the problem appears to be a primary concern for many women.
But according to Harley Medical Group nutritionist Christine Bailey, what you put inside your body is one of the “easiest and cheapest ways to make improvements to your skin.”
This comes after it was revealed why food labelled ‘healthy’ isn’t always the best option.
Dermatologist Justine Hextall, also on behalf of The Harley Medical group, describes how she often has patients coming to her having recently developed acne for the first time in their adult lives.
Dr Hextall said: “It is now quite common to see patients with acne in their 30s who may have had clear skin in their teens.”
Stress and hormonal changes in adulthood are common triggers for acne, but it can be hard to pin down the initial cause of the condition.
But many sufferers are now taking a holistic approach in treating the condition – considering lifestyle factors such as their diet and stress levels – before taking medication.
Christine Bailey reveals het top spot fighting foods to help you achieve a clear complexion.
Go for whole foods
Base your diet around unprocessed whole foods to help reduce blood sugar levels, insulin and growth factors which influence sebum production. A diet rich in wholegrain such as rice and quinoa, nuts, lean protein and antioxidant saturated vegetables protects the skin, supports healing and lowers inflammation.
Oily fish
Nourish your skin with plenty of anti-inflammatory omega 3 fats. Omega 3 fats are beneficial to overall skin health and are found in oily fish and also some seeds such as wallets, chia seeds and flaxseed. Try to eat oily fish three times a week and two tablespoons of seeds daily.
Avocado
The much-loved avocado is rich in anti-inflammatory monounsaturated fats and plenty of vitamin E to keep skin glowing. This humble fruit is a great source of vitamin C which supports the production of collagen, helping to improve the texture of your skin.
Fermented foods
An unbalanced gut can promote inflammation and poor detoxification, worsening the condition of skin. Fermented foods rich in beneficial bacteria can in turn help improve digestion and the complexion. Examples include natural yoghurt, miso and kimchi.
Green tea
Green tea, especially matcha green powder, is packed with antioxidants known as catechins, known for their powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Topical applications of green tea extract may also have potential in treating acne.
Berries
Berries are loaded with antioxidants that protect skin and lower inflammation plus vitamin c which is essential for collagen production. They are also packed with soluble fibre to support digestion. Try to include at least one cup of greens daily in your diet.

It’s said those who eat a Mediterranean-style diet are 37 per cent less likely to die than those who don’t.
Previously, it was believed cholesterol-lowering drugs such as statins were the most effective way of combating heart disease.
But what foods make up this increasingly popular diet?
This comes after Dr Chris Steele discussed the diet on This Morning.
To start, make sure the basis of your meals are starchy carbohydrates.
This means eating bread, pasta, rice or potatoes.
Where you can, those wholegrain varieties of bread, and keeping the skins on your potatoes means you’ll get more fibre.
You should also eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
And it’s important you eat a selection of fruit and vegetables within the five portions.
Choose lean protein, including meat, fish, eggs, beans or pulses and other non-dairy sources.
At least two portions of fish should be eaten a week. One portion should be oily, such as salmon or mackerel.
The inclusion of milk and dairy products, such as cheese and yoghurt, are great sources of protein and calcium.
A small amount of food that’s high in fat or sugar can be enjoyed, but these should be eaten less often.
While in the supermarket, choose unsaturated oils and spreads over saturated fats.
These can be eaten in small amounts.
And finally, drink plenty of fluid. The government recommends you drink six to eight glasses a day.

Mediterranean diet and exercise can slash Alzheimer’s risk [bestandroiddoubledinheadunit950.blogspot.com]
Maintaining a healthy weight by eating plenty of fruit, vegetables, fish, olive oil and nuts reduces the build-up of toxic protein, or plaques, that form in the brain – a key indicator of the disease.
A Mediterranean-style regime has long been known to reduce the risk of heart disease and boost cognitive function.
Now scientists claim that a study to be published in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry next month is the first to show how a healthy lifestyle directly affects the development of abnormal brain proteins in middle-aged people with mild memory problems.
Confirmation of the effects of the diet can actually be seen in brain scans of volunteers. Study leader Dr David Merrill, of the University of California, said: “This study reinforces the importance of living a healthy life to prevent Alzheimer’s.”
In the study volunteers who were suffering from memory problems but did not have dementia were given an experimental type of scan using a special radioactive dye to measure the level of plaques in their brains.
A plaque build-up and the formation of cellular tangles in the brain are believed to block nerve connections and lead to the death of cells and brain tissue.
Researchers from UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior collected data on the volunteers’ body mass index, levels of physical activity, diet and other factors such as stress. They found that each one of several lifestyle factors – normal BMI, exercise and a Mediterranean diet – were linked to lower levels of plaques and tangles.
Dr Merrill said: “The fact that we could detect this influence of lifestyle at a molecular level before the beginning of serious memory problems surprised us.
“This work lends key insight not only into the ability of patients to prevent Alzheimer’s disease but also physicians’ ability to detect and image these changes.”
A Mediterranean diet is characterised by a high intake of fruit and vegetables. It typically includes at least three daily servings of whole grains and two portions of oily fish per week to get the maximum health benefits.
It includes a high amount of monounsaturated fats found in olive oil and nuts.
Low to moderate amounts of alcohol, particularly red wine, are also allowed.
Alzheimer’s disease affects 850,000 people in the UK with the number of sufferers expected to reach one million by 2025.
One in 50 people between the ages of 65 and 70 has some form of the disease as does one in five people over the age of 80.

The ‘digestive system diet’: A regime to solve YOUR weight loss woes, say experts [bestandroiddoubledinheadunit950.blogspot.com]
While these dietary programmes may be successful for some if adhered to healthily, for many people the thought alone is enough to conjure feelings of deprivation and hunger.
Dieticians, nutritionists and health experts have long urged the public to take a balanced and gradual approach to weight-loss, rather than crash dieting.
After all, throwing your body into extreme exercise and eating habits can end up doing far more harm than good in the long run.
But the secret to solving your weight loss woes may be far less punishing, a recent study has shown.
Amid a maelstrom of conflicting advice on what to eat to maintain a healthy weight, experts believe the answer is in a personalised approach.
The UK-based white paper study, conducted by YorkTest laboratories, involved a sample of people who had digestive complaints such as bloating, fatigue and migraine.
Participants were given blood tests to measure food-specific antibody reactions to 158 food and drinks.
Researchers found the subjects shed weight in a ‘gradual and sustained’ way, with more than half (52 per cent) losing weight within the first two weeks.
Almost half (43 per cent) of candidates lost between 11lbs and 1 stone, and 9 per cent lost even more than this.
Dr Gill Hart, Scientific Director of YorkTest who led the study, said: “These results are significant because, while the focus was how a healthy, balanced – but personalised – diet could improve health and wellbeing, weight loss was revealed as a very interesting by-product.
“The process of food intake and uptake is complex, but it is accepted that obesity correlates with inflammation in the body.
“We can attribute the weight loss in this study to the digestive system functioning more effectively, and a reduction in the immune system reacting to foods it sees as hostile.”
While more research is needed into the pilot study, the findings highlight a significant key in the weight loss puzzle that plagues so many.
It also supports the notion there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach when it comes to dieting.
Dr Hart said: “These new findings show an important link to weight loss…
“People are being besieged with advice on what to eat and what to avoid, much of which is contradictory and downright confusing
“The research backs up our belief in the importance of a personalised ‘food fingerprint’ to aid health and wellbeing, and now we can see the added benefit of weight loss.”
Before embarking on any new weight loss regime, consult your local GP or a healthcare professional.
