The Slooh Community Observatory, the astronomy broadcast service, will host a live webcast Sunday (Nov. 13) showing live views of the “Mega Beaver Moon,” a full moon at its closest to Earth since 1948. The 30 minute webcast begins at 8 p.m. EDT (0100 on Nov. 14 GMT) and will be hosted on Slooh.com. The broadcast will also appear in the window below, courtesy of Slooh.  Full Story: Supermoon November 2016: When, Where & How to See It

From Slooh:

“During the show, Slooh’s Chief Astronomical Officer, Paul Cox will be live from Slooh’s flagship observatory at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, offering viewers a unique glimpse behind the curtain of Slooh’s member-controlled telescopes. Joining Cox on the program will be author, journalist, and Astronomy Editor for The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Bob Berman, who will help viewers understand why the Moon seems to grow and shrink in size throughout the year. This Mega Moon will appear 14% larger and up to 30% brighter than normal. We will not see a Full Moon this close again until November 2034.

“Later, Paul will be joined by Janice Stillman, Editor of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, who will share some fascinating history surrounding the November Full Moon. She will regale viewers with folklore from Native American tribes and early American colonists, explaining how this Moon came to be known as the Full Beaver Moon.

“This broadcast marks the latest installment in a partnership between Slooh and The Old Farmer’s Almanac, with a mission to connect each other’s audiences to the miraculous ebb and flow of nature as caused by celestial bodies; moments of wonder we all take for granted but are no less delighted to be exposed to again and again.

“Viewers can ask questions during the show by sending them to @Slooh on Twitter, commenting on the live Facebook video, or by joining us in our live chat on Slooh.com.”
