Weight loss is never easy, but by following the 5 2 diet you can lose weight faster, says a new expert health study from the UK.

Restricting your calories on just two days of the week has a quicker weight loss effect than cutting calories every day.

People on the 5 2 diet, where you eat normally for five days and consume a low number of calories (around 600) on two days, are said to drop pounds faster.

Those following the diet plan were able to reach at least five per cent weight loss within two months, found the researchers.

This was compared to another test group, who simply reduced their daily calorific intake to lose weight.

The group who followed the 5 2 diet managed five per cent weight loss within 59 days, whereas the daily calorie cutting group took 73 days.

As a calorie focussed diet with a single basic rule, the 5 2 diet is simple to understand and to follow.

It is believed a number of different celebrities, including Hollyoaks’ Jennifer Metcalfe and This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, have followed the diet.

However, the diet is not for everyone, said Dr Rona Antoni, Research Fellow in Nutritional Metabolism at the University of Surrey, who conducted the study.

“As seen in this study, some of our participants struggled to tolerate the 5:2 diet, which suggests that this approach is not suited to everybody.

“Ultimately the key to dieting success is finding an approach you can sustain long term.”

However, he said that for those able to stick to it, the 5 2 diet could be beneficial.

You can also achieve weight loss through eating eggs for breakfast, according to a different health study.

Weight loss can involve a restricted diet, but simply swapping a bagel for eggs in the morning will keep you fuller for longer.

Eggs have long been associated with raised cholesterol but the latest studies have revealed that eating eggs has no association with heart disease. In fact, eating whole eggs raises the body’s levels of HDL (good) cholesterol.

Swapping from a sugary, high-carb bagel in the morning to a whole egg could see your waistline trim down without much effort.
