James Martin, 45, is a British chef and television presenter, best known for presenting BBC’s Saturday Kitchen from 2006 to 2016.

He has also written numerous cookery books and now stars on ITV’s James Martin’s American Adventure and Saturday Morning With James Martin.

The chef is famous for his calorie-laden, comfort food dishes, being a self-confessed lover of Yorkshire puddings.

Once tucking into most of his finished creations, James decided to turn his life around, by losing a considerable amount of weight.

So how did the TV star do it?

Talking at Chelsea Flower Show earlier in the year, James revealed that he had decided he needed to lose the weight after feeling self-conscious while watching himself on TV.

Explaining he became self-conscious after noticing “a bit of a chin” on camera, he blamed his dip in confidence on the nation having a bigger TV screen.

Talking to the Mail Online, he said: “You kind of watch and go, ‘Oh God there’s a bit of chin happening there’. And everybody’s TVs are bigger now. Before you used to watch TV on a small one and now they’re massive.”

Since last year, the celebrity chef has lost an impressive six stone, five stone following his stint on Strictly Come Dancing and a further stone this year.

Known for his indulgent dishes, James used to weigh in at 19st 7lb. The 45-year-old once revealed he would eat chunks of pure butter that he was using to cook with, contributing to his weight gain.

Cutting out his favourite fat-laden butter helped James lose six stone, along with cutting out many other high-fat foods.

Competing on Strictly Come Dancing also helped James shed the pounds, with the intense training regime and demanding schedule a shock to his system.

“I mean, I needed to!” he told Prima magazine, talking of how he dramatically dropped the weight during filming for the BBC show.

Combined with a more controlled diet, the chef revealed he lost a staggering stone in just one week, then a further three stone in the following six weeks.

Details of the intense training were also spilt by James, revealing that past week four of the show, training is seven days a week for 10 hours a day.

Another celebrity chef who has lost an impressive amount of weight is multi-Michelin starred chef, Gordon Ramsey.

He revealed his body transformation on his Instagram account, @gordongram, which has 4.5 million followers.

Gordon posted a topless picture of himself at the beach wearing a pair of lycra shorts.

Taken ahead of a triathlon event, Gordon captioned the image: “Iron Chef to Ironman for @greatormondst #teamramsay London Triathlon can’t wait ! Great way to shake off jet lag…. good luck and congrats to all athletes and a BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteers & sponsors couldn’t do it with out you!”.

So how much weight has he lost? The chef was 270 pounds (19 stone) at his heaviest. He slimmed down by 50 pounds (3.6 stone), he revealed on the Today Show.
