Weight loss is a goal of many Britons, so is getting rid of stubborn belly fat.

The belly fat can be one of the hardest areas to shift fat, often taking long periods of time to show results.

While spot reducing fat doesn’t work, there are many ways to target belly fat through the diet.

One method involved cutting one popular food item out, which can speed up weight loss results and finally shift that stubborn fat.

According to medical website Healthline.com, the number one thing to do when trying to get rid of belly fat is cut out sugar.

Sugar is one of the most fattening and unhealthy substances there are, and studies show that cutting it out can do marvels for the waistline.

Lots of modern food products are laced with sugar, such as fruit juices, and low-fat foods.

Health line revealed that studies have actually shown the harmful effects of sugar on metabolic health, with sugar actually turning to fat in the stomach.

One study published on the US National Library of Medicine website showed just how harmful sugar is, and revealed how it increases belly fat and liver fat.

This can lead to insulin resistance, which then contributes to a host of health and metabolic problems.

Studies have shown that eating too much sugar can cause the liver to be overloaded with fructose, producing more fat, especially around the middle.

Cutting back, or cutting out sugar can speed up weight loss results, getting rid of belly fat.

When shopping, look out for “low-fat” foods as they are usually packed with added sugar, especially low-fat yoghurt.

Prioritise reading food labels, and be aware of the amount of refined sugar in the products you buy.

One study on Science Direct even proved the link between obesity and sugar intake, showing that drinking sugary drinks is linked to a 60 per cent risk of obesity in children.

One celebrity that recently lost a lot of belly fat is MasterChef presenter, Gregg Wallace. 

The former baker and farmer is famous for presenting the series, along with its spin-offs Celebrity MasterChef and MasterChef: The Professionals.

To lose weight and get rid of belly fat, Gregg cut down on fried and high-sugar foods.

Gregg told The Sun in November last year: “When I was at my biggest I was having a daily fry-up, fish and chips once per week, take away a couple more times and drinking beer nearly every day.

He said: “I made a conscious decision to cut down on fried and high sugar foods, as well as booze — which helped me lose weight.”
