Bin man Ian Noble, 52, from Carnoustie, Angus, had spent most of his life overweight.

Unrepentant about his growing size, the bin man instead shunned fruit and vegetables to gorge on pies, munching his way through five packets of crisps a day.

Despite friends and family shared their concerns, he carried on with his eye-watering food habits.

He said: “If I felt like eating something, I’d jolly well eat it. My diet was shocking. I ate anything and everything that was bad for me. I loved pies, pastry, and deep fried chips.”

He filled his plate with fried bacon and eggs on toast for breakfast before then eating a chicken roll.

For much, he’d then eat a pie and stomach a curry for dinner.

In the meantime, he would eat up to five packets of crisps in between his meals.

His reality check only came in February this year after his son came home in tears.

Son Jason, 14, told his dad Ian and mum Joyce, 51, how class bullies had teased him for months about his dad’s weight, calling him the “fat bin man”.

Ian said: “He came home one day in February in bits. He burst into tears and said it was because his classmates were calling me ‘the fat bin man’.

“It was so bad he didn’t want to go back to school. It was upsetting for me and Joyce too. I thought I should do something to help him.”

After sister-in-law Marian Brand, 49, suggested trying Slimming World, he decided to give it a go, with the aim of losing three stone by September, Jason’s birthday.

But despite his initial concerns, he found overhauling his diet a lot easier than he had previously thought.

He said: “They were doing a tasting night and I realised healthy food could actually be quite nice. I thought, ‘I could do this’.”

Swapping his favourite pies for fruit and veg, he has lost a whopping 3st 10Ibs so far, with his waist shrinking from 44ins to 36ins.

Ian, who now weights 15st 11Ibs,  now eats boiled eggs on toast for breakfast and he snacks on fruit salad in the morning.

Lunch is now minestrone soup and yoghurt, while dinner is chicken and bacon pasta.

But it’s not just on his waistline that he has noticed a difference.

He said he can now do simple tasks he couldn’t before, like bending down to tie his shoe laces and drive without his tummy hitting the steering wheel.

And better still, he is no longer the subject of ridicule by his son’s bullies.

He said: “My son is the main reason I decided to change my lifestyle, and thankfully the bullying has stopped now.”

It comes after Express.co.uk told how an obese woman lost 15 stone but lost her husband in the process.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)
