In a study published May 31, researchers announced the discovery of a dune system on the dwarf planet Pluto. The study team spotted ridges on Sputnik Planitia, the huge plain that makes up the left lobe of Pluto’s famous “heart,” thanks to imagery taken by NASA’s New Horizons mission in July 2015.
