A recent study by researchers from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota looked at 39 common exercises and ranked them on information obtained from the US National Institutes of Health.

The research calculated the number of calories burned during an hour of each exercise.

One exercise that burns a an impressive amount of calories, speeding up weight-loss result, is Taekwondo.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, characterised by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks.

With so much moving around, the workout burns a staggering 752-937 calories per hour.

Doing just over three hours of Taekwondo could burn a whole pound of fat, with a pound of fat being equal to 3,500 calories.

Another surprising exercise that burns a whopping amount of calories is vigorous swimming.

Vigorous swimming burns an amazing 715-892 calories per hour, and is also good for Briton’s with injuries or joint pain.

Along with being cooling and more enjoyable than other forms of exercise, swimming is a workout for the whole body, toning each muscle individually.

Join a gym with a swimming pool or head to a local leisure centre to burn hundreds of calories and lose weight fast.

The third best exercise for losing weight fast is rollerblading.

The surprisingly weight-loss friendly workout actually burns an impressive 548-683 calories an hour.

Perfect for summer, rollerblading can be done in groups and outdoors, taking the pressure and dread that often comes with working out.

The fun exercise is great for toning the leg muscles and glutes.

Calories will continue to be burnt for hours even after the workout has finished, due to the body refuelling and repairing its biggest muscles.

Another exercise that is set to help Britons lose weight fast is weight lifting, which also burns calories even hours after the workout has finished.
