Tom Kerridge, 45, is a Michelin-starred chef, working in the food industry for over 27 years.

He is a television presenter, restaurateur and pub owner, known for appearances on some of the UK’s biggest cookery shows.

While his career was getting bigger and bigger, so was his waistline, and Tom was once also known for being overweight.

However, the star has recently shed almost half of his former body weight and revealed how he managed to do so.

Tom once weighed in at 30 stone, realising four years ago that he was very unhappy with his weight.

The chef decided to turn his life around, starting his journey on his 40th birthday.

The 6’3” star contributed his weight problems to his former lifestyle, drinking too much and eating too much rubbish.

Talking to the Sunday Times, Tom said: “Say we live to 80. Well, I thought, I’m halfway there.”

“And then, I thought… I’m not going to get there. If I’m like this, I’m not going to make it.”

He decided to cut out booze and overhaul his diet and started following the lesser-known dopamine diet.

The dopamine diet revolves around the body’s happiness hormone, dopamine, a chemical released from the brain when we experience pleasure.

This chemical reaction can happen more often with the right foods, with foods rich in amino acids also creating the hormone.

Foods that contain amino acids include dairy products, eggs, oily fish, fruit and vegetables – foods Tom contributes to helping him lose weight.

In an effort to boost his dopamine levels, Tom revealed that he eats these foods as often as he can.

Along with eating foods rich in amino acids and healthy fats, he also tries to consume less than 90g of carbohydrates a day.

In an interview with Bloomsbury Publishing, Tom revealed his favourite “dopamine-rich” foods, that helped him shed 12 stone and maintain his new slimmed-down physique.

His list of go-to foods include vegetables, hot sauce, tinned beans, herbs & spices, cream alternatives, cornflour, sweeteners, spray oil, stock cubes and eggs.

In an effort to make his leaner meals tastier, the chef uses hot sauce, herbs, cream alternatives and stock cubes to add extra flavour and texture, without too many added calories.

Tom also revealed that he goes swimming every day, speeding up his weight loss. “My alarm wakes me up at 6.15 every morning and I go to the swimming pool at a hotel up the road,” he told The Telegraph.

Another Briton who recently lost an impressive amount of weight is Hollywood actor John Goodman, who shed a shocking 100 pounds.
