Weight loss is made easier by having the right low calorie snacks to eat throughout the day.

Healthy snacks under 100 calories help you to stay full without compromising your diet.

“Whilst snacking is great for helping to maintain energy and control appetite, calories whilst snacking can quickly add up and may impair weight loss,” explains nutritionist Jenna Hope.

“Therefore having these lower snack ideas to hand could help to prevent over consuming at snack time.”

She has listed her seven favourite healthy snacks which contain 100 calories or less.

Chicken

“Half a pack of pre-cooked chicken – we often think of snacks as sweeter options but there’s no harm in enjoying half a pack of pre cooked chicken breast.

“It’s rich in vitamin B12 which is essential for energy maintenance.” 

Dark chocolate

“Two squares of dark chocolate is always a good option to help with those chocolate cravings.

“Dark chocolate is more bitter which means you’re less likely to overeat it.”

Apple with almond butter

“An apple with a level teaspoon of almond butter is a brilliant snack idea.

“The almond butter will help to slow the release of the sugars into the blood stream but the fibre in the apple will help to keep you full.

“Ensure you’re not overdoing the nut butter though as it’s high in calories and very easy to over do!” 

Small banana

“If you’re looking for a quick energy hit, a banana is always a good option. It’s high in carbohydrates proving you with a quick burst of energy.” 

One boiled egg

“Boiled eggs are rich in proteins and healthy fats to help control blood sugar, prevent cravings and keep you fuller for longer.”

Oatcakes and cottage cheese

“Two oatcakes with a thin spread of cottage cheese is a great, balanced snack for blood sugar.

“The fibre in the oatcakes helps to slow the release of the carbohydrates into the blood preventing those blood sugar crashes. The cottage cheese is a lean source of protein.”

Greek yoghurt and berries

“To curb those sugar craving, have 80g low fat Greek yoghurt with a handful of berries.”

Tuna

“Try eating half a tin of tuna with some cucumber and tomatoes.”

“It may seem strange to snack on tuna but it’s super lean and high in protein to keep you full.”

“The vegetables add volume without adding many calories. They’re also have a high water content which can contribute to hydration particularly during the hot weather.”
