Weight loss is often an uphill struggle, but finding the right diet plan can help you.

Now experts have revealed the diet plan that slimmers stick to for the longest.

Weightwatchers is said to be the diet plan you are most likely to stick to, according to the experts of Bupa Global.

Slimmers following the traditional weight loss diet stuck to this diet for an average of 104 days.

This is compared to dieters on the Paleo diet, who gave up after just 76 days on average.

Weight Watchers, founded in 1963, is a calorie restricted diet which also encourages followers to exercise and eat more fruit and vegetables.

Another diet plan slimmers were able to stick to was the vegan diet.

Those following the vegan diet stuck to it for an average of 103 days.

This proves the effectiveness of “traditional” diets, said Dr. Søren Carstens MD, Head of Clinical Operations at Bupa Global.

“Over the past few years we’ve seen such a huge number of new diets enter the market as people increasingly seek short-term solutions for weight loss and health improvement,” she said.

Commenting on the findings, she said: “As you can see from the research, many of these popular diets are unsustainable in the long run.”

“It’s interesting to note that the longest-lasting diets were Weight Watchers and veganism.

“This is possibly because Weightwatchers is a more traditional programme that promotes healthy eating and exercise, and veganism is more of a lifestyle change than a diet.”

Which snacks have the lowest calories? Weight loss is made easier by having the right low calorie snacks to eat throughout the day.

Healthy snacks under 100 calories help you to stay full without compromising your diet.

“Whilst snacking is great for helping to maintain energy and control appetite, calories whilst snacking can quickly add up and may impair weight loss,” explains nutritionist Jenna Hope.

“Therefore having these lower snack ideas to hand could help to prevent over consuming at snack time.”

She has listed her seven favourite healthy snacks which contain 100 calories or less.

Her snack suggestions include chicken pieces, dark chocolate and apple with almond butter.

She also advices a small banana or a single boiled egg.
