Although he does not advocate drinking alcohol in general, Joe, 30, said if you did want to indulge, the drink to choose is a gin and tonic.

Speaking to Business Insider, he said: “All alcohol can’t be stored in the body, so really, it puts the breaks on fat burning.

“My personal favourite drink though is a gin and tonic. sLightly less calories than a beer or mojito with a load of sugar.”

But for those on a serious mission to get into shape, Joe advised: “If you are serious about getting lean though, alcohol could be the one thing you gotta knock on the head for a little while.

“But everything in moderation. So have a treat, enjoy yourself but don’t go too mad on the booze.”

He also shared his tips for those suffering from a hangover, and said: “If you can get up in the morning, drink loads of water and have a high fat, high protein breakfast – like an omelette or some scrambled eggs – you’re going to feel so much better and your energy levels are going to be much more constant.”

Earlier this month, Joe shared the one unhealthy food he would never eat.

Wicks built a multi-million pound fitness empire based around his “Lean In 15” plan, which showed how to cook healthy meals in minimal time.

The Body Coach Instagram account shares the recipes on short video with Wicks’ 1.7million followers, and meals are varied.

Both the videos and Wicks’ books feature for such as pies, scotch eggs, curries and even carbonara, and alcohol is not banned.

Speaking to Business Insider, he revealed frozen ready meals would never make it into his shopping basket.

He added that he also avoids fast food chains, and said: “Any deep fried stuff. It’s the oils they use that aren’t good for you, rather than [whatever is in them, like] the chicken. They’re cheap, so they use all sorts of c***.”

If Wicks has a craving, he will try to create a healthier version himself at home.

He said: “I like to make healthy versions of popcorn chicken, healthy burgers, and healthy homemade pizzas, so I never feel deprived.”

Despite his popularity, the Lean in 15 diet was blasted by ITV show Save Money: Lose Weight earlier this year.

The show saw hosts Sian Williams and Dr Ranj Singh explore the price of diets and how effective they are for weight loss.
